Obituary

Parma: Don, age 87, passed peacefully surrounded by his family on October 11, 2013, after a brief illness. Predeceased by his wife Eileen F. (Gresens) Mattice in 1998 and his fiancé, Marlyte (Molly) Saucier of Maine, in 2012. Survived by his loving and proud children; Donna (John) Hubbard, Craig (Victoria) Mattice, Galen (Debora) Mattice and Zina (Alan) Lagonegro; his dear grandchildren, Shelly (James) Draudt, James (Barbara) Mattice, Regina Mattice, Valissa Reynolds, Sara (Carlo) Pokol, twins Samantha and Matthew Lagonegro, and Paul (Jennifer) Reininger; 18 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Don proudly served in the US Navy in WWII on LST 6 having completed 29 crossings of the English Channel in support of our troops leading up to and during the Invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944. He was awarded the American Theatre Medal, European Theatre Medal 1 Star and the Victory Medal. He would always give a robust smile when asked if he was a member of the Greatest Generation. He was a proud participant in Honor Flight June 5-6, 2010, a master mechanic, a scoutmaster, an avid hunter, lover of bluegrass music, traveling, tinkering, inventing, cooking, and most of all he cherished time spent with his family. Life member of the Sampson WWII Navy Vets, the USS Macon, the Conservation Club of Brockport and the Parma VFW Post 6105. Member of the Fox Den musical group (harmonica), and he also played with the Just for Fun Group and the Hilton Hobos.

"We greatly appreciated everything you did to make dad’s funeral special and unique. If he could thank you himself he would. Your kindness will never be forgotten. Thank you ever so much."
