Greece: Tuesday, September 17, 2019 passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at age 96. Born and raised in Auburn, NY, he was the oldest of three children to Johnny & Flossie Worden. The family lived on Owasco Lake. Jack is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Irene (Ryan) Worden; children, John (Cindy), Terry (David) Budnik & Jim(Rhonda); grandchildren: Ryan, Jonathan, Patrick, Terese, Kati, Liam & Hannah; sister, Joanne Lawler(Don); sister-in-law Helen Worden, nieces, nephews; loving family and many dear friends. He is predeceased by his parents, brother, Joe and nephew, Donnie Lawler.
Jack attended the University of Notre Dame and studied chemical engineering. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps. and became a fighter pilot and later an instructor in the Pacific theater. After the war he completed his degree and briefly worked in Washington, DC at Harris Research Labs. He then went to work at Eastman Kodak where he became the Assistant Director of Paper Service. After retiring in 1984, Jack and Irene spent winters in Sarasota, FL in the Camelot Lakes community where they made many close friends. In Rochester, Jack could often be found assisting with taking the grandchildren to various sports, dance classes, musical events and babysitting. He was extremely proud of his family and was actively involved in their lives. He was a “hands-on” parent and grandparent.
A life-long Yankees and Notre Dame fan, Jack loved his teams and passed the love of sports to his family. He led several trips to South Bend to see the Irish play football. Summertime often would involve watching or listening to the Yankees play, and was often the topic of conversation during family dinners and events. He also loved to bowl and was a member of a bowling league the majority of his life. In the fall, Notre Dame and the Buffalo Bills became the focus of the discussions. Jack was an active member of the St. Lawrence Parish, where he was a member of the Mens’ Club.
He passed along his love of good food and especially ice cream. A fond memory is of the trips to Abbotts for a cone or a Mexican Sundae while watching TV. Family events and holidays were an opportunity to get the whole gang together for a meal.
Jack will be missed by his family, friends and neighbors. His wisdom, energy, humor and support were the glue for the family and their success.
Jack’s visitation will be held Monday, Sept. 23rd 4-7 PM at Vay-Schleich & Meeson 1075 Long Pond Rd. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Sept. 24th 9:30 AM at St. Lawrence Church 1000 N. Greece Road. Interment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sisters of St. Joseph 150 French Road Rochester, NY 14618 in his memory. For more information and to sign his online guestbook, visit

"We greatly appreciated everything you did to make dad’s funeral special and unique. If he could thank you himself he would. Your kindness will never be forgotten. Thank you ever so much."
