Mary Joslin Discher

Irondequoit: Mary J. Discher passed from her earthly life to life eternal on November 5, 2019, at age 92. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Wendell Discher, and her four children, Jocelyn (Bob) Ault, Craig (Judy Chilson), Scott, and Norman (Jennifer) Discher, as well as her seven grandchildren: Taylor and Tory Ault, Falkner, Karl, Tabitha, Marianne and Katherine Discher, and friend Cheryl Pipkin. She is also survived by her brother Norman Joslin and sister Joselyn Watkins. She is predeceased by her sister Elizabeth, brothers-in-law Anson Shupe and Charles Watkins, and sister-in-law Jane Joslin. She has had the joy of being Aunt Mary to many beloved nieces and nephews.

Mary was born in Kenmore, NY and left to attend Kalamazoo College (MI) where she met Wendell. They have lived most of their adult lives in the Rochester, NY area. Mary graduated from college with majors in Religion, Physical Education and Sociology. She has applied all three disciplines in her professional and volunteer lives. Mary was a 65-year member of Bethany Presbyterian Church in Greece, NY. She served the Presbyterian Church (USA) extensively on committees, as an ordained Deacon and Elder and as Moderator for the Genesee Valley Presbytery.

Mary will be remembered for her passionate teaching of the Christian faith and the love she showed to all people. Mary served as a host family for local international college students for many years. Travel and tennis were two of Mary’s personal passions.

"We greatly appreciated everything you did to make dad’s funeral special and unique. If he could thank you himself he would. Your kindness will never be forgotten. Thank you ever so much."
